Council and the community has access to an online resource, called the Lithgow Economic Profile – which provides economic data on our location. The website provides access to detailed demographic data for the 1991 to 2016 Census years, economic data and maps on industry sectors as well as population and employment forecasts.

The economic data is important for us as it provides comprehensive information about workforce characteristics, industry contributions, the role of tourism and gaps in local supply chains.

Here’s a brief snapshot of some current local data:

*Continued slight population growth year on year – currently 21,636.

*Local businesses and local jobs holding steady (1,313 businesses and 8,601 jobs).

*Latest quarter (March 2019) unemployment of 735 people – 7.17%. Down from 7.81% in December 2018 quarter.

*Over $72M in building approvals in 2018/2019 – significant growth on the previous year and continuing a strong trend over the last 4 years.
